Oklahoma’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRGOK)
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program in 2023 with funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) applied for and was awarded $3 million under Phase 1: Planning Grants.
As the lead agency for CPRGOK, DEQ will work with multiple partners to develop a statewide Priority Action Plan (PAP), Comprehensive Action Plan (CAP), and Status Report starting August 2023. Through the PAP and CAP, DEQ will develop a statewide greenhouse gas inventory and develop plans for reducing emissions from both criteria pollutants and greenhouse gases.
Following public feedback and input on potential implementation-ready projects, DEQ developed and submitted Oklahoma's PAP to EPA on February 29, 2024. The PAP includes potential emissions reductions, community and workforce impacts, and other co-benefits. DEQ continues to work on Oklahoma’s Comprehensive Action Plan due in 2025.
EPA issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity for a highly competitive CPRG Implementation Grants General Competition. Oklahoma applied for implementation funds as an individual state as well as part of several multi-state coalitions. EPA announced selections for the CPRG Implementation Grants General Competition in July 2024. Several states, including Oklahoma, were not selected as individual or multi-state coalitions.
