DEQ frequently hires employees for temporary employment. Candidates must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma or GED. Paid internships or temporary positions may be available in a clerical, technical, or professional classification. Technical, professional or internships are generally those who have or are obtaining a degree in a biological science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, environmental science, civil, mechanical or chemical engineering, accounting or business/finance.
A temporary employee may work no more than 999 hours in a twelve-month period and no more than forty hours a week. If a temporary employee exhausts the allotted 999 hours before his/her anniversary date is reached, the employee must resign.
